Valuing Each Member of the Team
Providing a high-quality special education experience for each child involves a team effort. The mission of the Butte County Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) is to empower teachers and families to, in turn, empower students, with the ultimate goal of student self-determination and independence. We want to encourage you to consider joining our list serve on Remind, as well as the Butte County SELPA Community Connection Facebook page so that you can stay on top of what is going on in our various districts, any upcoming trainings and community events that might help us all become more informed and engaged members of the team.
In this section of the website, you will find information related to your rights and procedural safeguards in the Individual Education Plan (IEP) process, resources for alternate dispute resolution to keep teams moving forward in a positive direction; information about the Community Advisory Committee, of which you are a member by default; the responsibility of the school district and the SELPA in the area of "child find;" as well as numerous links to additional resources. Additionally, we have information specific to foster and adopted youth rights; surrogate parents; private school students; statewide testing; and transition planning.
